I began working with cyanotype to have a hands-on relationship to my photographs. Cyanotype is a traditional photographic technique invented in the 1800s and renders the photo in shades of blue. To push the medium further, I started to experiment with adding oil pastels to the image that took me in two directions.

The series Renewal is a celebration of the enduring 19th century architecture of the city I reside in and the blooming of the flowering branches in spring. Coming out of the hibernating nature of the winter months, there is a sense of joy with the returning of spring set against the steadfastness of the historic architecture. The upward movement of the branches to the light and the soaring architecture is a reminder to continue to look forward with our thoughts on the highest possibilities.
